Twitter Diary

I was starting to get bored with Twitter. I made a post that was exactly 140 characters by accident. This seemed like fun so I decided on some more rules and started posting more often. The rules are: 140 characters per post exactly; a ABABB rhyming scheme which makes it a kind of cinquain; at least one stanza per week. It will end on November 23rd, 2010. Since on Twitter the rhyming scheme is in reverse I am re-posting them here in chronological order. Hope my patience lasts and yes the first stanza is messed up.

Taxes, Deficit and Disinformation

deficit-iconThere is something creepy about how visceral, uninformed and myopic people are when it comes to taxes. Now that the healthcare reform brouhaha is over the media and the Tea Party loons are focusing on tax reform. Basically they want to only have things they like paid for by taxing people they don't like - in a way, for the myopically self interested, it's not a bad idea. Might have problems pulling it of.

A Blast from the Past - a Video Trip Down Memory Lane

Found some old videosIt's all Michal's fault. I was going to spend the weekend thinking about yard work, lounging around, picking my nose, farting and catching flies. Michal called me with a simple request of digitizing an old VHS tape. I tried to say no - "I don't know if my old VCR works…", "I don't think I have the cables…", etc. Being the good, guilt ridden father that I am, I did go find that old VCR and Saturday afternoon went on a trip down memory lane.

Spring in February! That's Even Crazy for L.B.

Spring in Long BeachSure it was raining a few days ago. And yes we expect some rains again this week. Ok it's not all that warm for SoCal and there is lots of snow in the mountains, we like to keep our snow in it's rightful place. But, all the plants in my yard think it's full blown Spring.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling and it's all wet

The National Weather Service is forecasting major rain for all of next week. They say it could be as bad as the el Nino rains of 1997. The forecast is for up to 16 inches of rain in the foothills by the end of the week. That's a lot for this part of the country. We get an average of just under 3 inches for the whole month and it's one of our wetter months. How serious are we taking this:

"County officials plan to close mountain thoroughfares, including Angeles Forest Highway, Big Tujunga Canyon Road and Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road, at 4 a.m. Sunday. The roads will reopen after the storm systems pass. Dozens of residents who live in mountain hamlets accessible by the roads have been urged to evacuate."

Summer is done today. Posted kwas recipes on http://ilikethis.com and I'm ready to make a new batch. Dogs need a bath cause they are smelly.
Margo posted essay at A. Bourdain’s challenge http://tinyurl.com/29qutuo. I do get randy seeing her enveloped by aromatic vapors of cooking.
