Early breakfast at Frankfurt AirportWe arrived in Frankfurt International during it's own witching hour. Guess somewhere between 5 am and 7 am is when the switch to the next 24 hours happens here. All the shops where closed, there where no passengers, only a skeleton crew and lots of Turks in green jumpsuits on a weird range of personal transport vehicles. Even the  moving walkways, otherwise known as moving sidewalk, moving pavement, autopedescalator (I like this one the best), walkalator, travelator, autowalk, horizontal escalator, slidewalk or moveator, were stopped.

Customs was a blast - I love the EU. Choose a door - to your left "nothing to declare", to your right "things to declare". That's it and all of the EU is yours.

At the security check there was a woman traveling with a cat. So that the carrier could be x-rayed she had to take the cat out. It was a giant, calico,  Maine Coon - apparently some kind of world champion - absolutely gorgeous.

I wonder where Michal fits in with security profiling. It seems they think he deserves special attention at every checkpoint. Is it his age, attitude or maybe darker complexion that sets them off?

The Friday morning, 6:30 flight from Frankfurt to Warszawa must not be popular. They had to downsize the plane and reassign seats. It's a short flight but the little bun with cheese we got for breakfast was the best airline food we had in the last 16 hours. It was overcast over Poland so we didn't get to see much of the countryside that looks like a crazy quilt, especially in the summer.

Grey skies over Poland

While waiting for our luggage at the carousel I kept thinking we still had to go through Polish customs, passport and security check. I remember it being a protracted and somber affair. It almost felt like something was wrong as we just waltzed out of the airport. Like I said before - I love the EU.

It was sweet, tender and confusing when Julek kissed Tasia and Rachel on the hand to greet them - as is Polish custom. In the mini Van taxi I watched Rachel as she took in the sights with a distinct "I'm not in Kansas any more." expression on her face.

The apartment looks just the same, Julek says it is Halszka's place. My mothers touch is everywhere.
